Commander's Corner

Commander Mark Winter

Fellow Comrades,

We held our Pancake Breakfast and Chislic Feed this month; the turnout was low with the competition of high school graduations.  We’re still looking for additional help.

We participated in the Loyalty Parade at Brandon. We need to be frugal on handing out the candy handing out process, so we don’t run out before the parade ends.

We participated in the May Day of Service at Mount Pleasant Cemetery, cleaning up around the gravestones. Thanks to Ryan Killion, Randall Johnson, Butch and myself.

We participated in the Experience Sioux Falls 250thAnniversary press release Thursday May 14, 2026, and was included in the Dakota News Now "Red, white, and back again” video clip about the July 4thParade.

We attended the Armed Forces Day Program Friday May 15, 2026.

A reminder that the Memorial Day Program will be held Monday, May 25, 2026, at the Military Alliance at 10:00 am., with the Marine Corps League hosting this year.

A last reminder that the Independence Day Parade will be held in downtown Sioux Falls on July 4, 2026, with the parade starting at 10:00 am.  We’re planning to have a trailer with veterans seated on chairs.  If interested, let the office know, seating is limited.

 Mark Winter, Commander

Red, White and Boots

August 14, Keni Thomas, August 15, Bluebird Cafe Experience with Jimmy Yeary and Friends.

Keni ThomasIn the summer of 1993 Staff Sergeant Keni Thomas was deployed to Mogadishu Somalia with the 3rd Ranger Battalion as part of an elite special operations package called Task Force Ranger.

A powerful speaker, Keni captivates audiences from beginning to end as he tells the incredible story of extraordinary individuals and how they fought to bring each other home. Drawing from his experiences on the battlefield, Keni inspires people to achieve greatness by stressing the importance of outstanding leadership at every level, even if the only person you are leading is yourself.

Jimmy Yeary is not only a highly sought-after speaker, but he is also a hugely successful songwriter, and his music is all around you. Jimmy Yeary was writing songs long before becoming the lead singer of the Grammy Award winning supergroup SHENANDOAH.

Recently, both the CMA and ACM awarded Jimmy Yeary with "Song of the Year" for I Drive Your Truck--the inspiring song he wrote about the father of a fallen soldier and how he continues to remember his son.

Emotional awareness, a greater understanding of other people, and the shared experiences that build an effective team herald the genius of Jimmy Yeary. Not only can he speak to who you are as an organization, he will put it to music!
